Region Overview
While Wales might not have the same historical association with whisky production as its Celtic neighbors, Scotland and Ireland, a dynamic and award-winning scene has emerged in the country in the 21st century. The modern era of Welsh whisky began in 2000 with the establishment of Penderyn Distillery, the first commercial distillery in Wales in over a century. Penderyn released its first single malt whisky on St. David's Day in 2004, marking a significant milestone in the revival of Welsh whisky.
