Basil Hayden Aged 10 Years Old
Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Bourbon features the same high-rye bourbon recipe that Basil Hayden fans know and love, but the whiskey is aged in barrels longer to create another layer of complexity and deeper flavor. The result of the extra aging is a distinct whiskey with big oak aromas along with hints of char and vanilla. Basil Hayden trademark spice shines through as the perfect complement to the caramel sweetness and wood flavors, making the whiskey a memorable one for fans and newcomers alike. Serving neat or on-the-rocks allows the sweet caramel and vanilla notes that develop from 10 years in a newly charred American Oak barrel to shine, complementing the spicy flavors typical to Basil Hayden high-rye mashbill. This whiskey is light enough to examine on the palette without the burn associated with higher-proof whiskeys.

Jim Beam Old Grand-Dad 114 Proof
Basil Hayden Sr. - known as Old Grand-Dad to the generations that followed - made bourbon the way he wanted. He went against the traditional agraina of the time and chose to distill his bourbon with a higher percentage of rye. This way of crafting bourbon was likely something he handed down to his son. And in turn, his grandson. That was Colonel R.B. Hayden who would justly name his bourbon after his Old Grand-Dad. The recipe today remains inspired by Basil's original with complex flavors and an unmistakable spiciness. First bottled in 1882, very little has changed about it. And that's the only way we'd have it.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Immediately you're hit with cinnamon, brown sugar and rye heat. Old Grand-Dad line is known for their above-average amount of rye in their mashbill compared to other bourbons. This is very evident on its nose. Fainter hints of orange peel and spice also tag along for the ride.
Palate: Fruity but very firm. The rye character is present along with a decent amount of alcohol that at times can get in the way of the flavor. This bourbon commands all of your attention and then some.
Finish: A full bodied finish that lets you know it's there. It's certainly one of the stronger tasting bourbons out there. The long finish reveals almost a candied aftertaste with red hot cinnamon being very present. The bourbon does seem to enjoy a few extra minutes out of the bottle as it becomes a bit easier to go down.
