1897 Bottled in Bond image
Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond
Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond is crafted to honor a watershed moment in bourbon history- the U.S. Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. This expression follows the Bottled in Bond standards that whisky must be aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years, the product of one distillation season, one distiller and from one distillery and bottled at 100 Proof. The concept behind these regulations- the idea of 'sealed in quality'- was something Old Forester introduced in 1870, as America's First Bottled Bourbon.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select
To craft Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select Tennessee Whiskey, master distiller Jeff Arnett of Lynchburg, TN first selects one out of every hundred barrels for its unique and expressive qualities. Once these special casks have been identified, they are moved to the very top of the distillery's rickhouses, where extreme temperature changes facilitate dramatic interactions between the whiskey and the wood (by law, “Tennessee whiskey” must be aged new, charred American oak barrels). Finally, each barrel is bottled individually at 94 proof, resulting in truly “one-of-a-kind” flavors in every bottle.

Note: A very small quantity of whiskies came from this single barrel, so taste variability is higher than with larger production whiskies. Many times this is not a big deal (i.e. Blanton's), but sometimes it matters (i.e. Larceny Barrel Proof versions). If the specific barrel is not listed, ask your server or a store employee for more info.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Classic aroma of vanilla, caramel, brown sugar and even some cinnamon.
Palate: On the palate, notes of oak and charcoal become evident, along with sweeter touches of orange peel and honey.
Finish: The finish is sweet and spicy, with flavors of butterscotch and clove lingering on the tongue.
